Change of the title

Flashcards · for iOS

I made a flash card, then changed the text on it, but the flash card’s old title was left on the list of flash cards. How do I change the title of the flash card?

Thank you for the question! Do not worry. You did everything right. This is not a bug — it’s a feature.

The text on the flash card and the title of the flash card in the list are different things. They may be the same and may differ. But if you change the text on the flash card the title of the flash card does NOT automatically change.

The situation also depends on whether 1) you have made the flash card yourself, or whether 2) you are trying to change the flash card from the ready-made album.

1. You have created the flash card yourself

When you create a flash card, the flash card’s title is initially the same as the text on it.

Once you have saved the flash card, you can edit the title of the flash card and the texts on it separately. For tips, take a look at the ready-made Create album.

2. Ready-made albums

Ready-made albums are automatically created when installing the app: Learn, Create, Organise and others.

Different languages

In ready-made albums, the title of the flash card is usually displayed in the language of your iPhone®/iPad®. For example, if the device language is English, then the titles of the ready-made album flash cards will be displayed in English.

Why is this the case? Imagine having purchased an album where animals are depicted on one side of the flash cards, and their names are displayed in the language you just started to teach or learn on the other side. So how would you recognise the flash cards in their list if you do not know this new language yet?

So keep in mind that the text on the flash card and the flash card title may be written in different languages.

Different content

Also, the text on the flash card may be long, while its title is short. Or vice versa. This has its own learning advantages.

How to change the flash card of a ready-made album

⚠️ NOTE: Consider the scenario where you are using flash cards to learn a language, and decide to change the title of a flash card. If you then change the language of your device, that specific flash card will lose the ability to translate the title to the language of your device. The same applies to the text on a flash card.

If you still want to change the flash card from the ready-made album first you need to unlock it. To do this, touch the album’s cover and hold the finger, then tap the Info button in the menu that appears. The ‘Lock Album’ switch is located on the very bottom row of the Info window. Tap the switch to change its status.

Once you have unlocked the album, you can edit the title of the flash card and the texts on it separately. For tips, take a look at the ready-made Create album.
